The cast of Pinocchio has been on tour since February 3rd! We begin the day with a 5:30 am phone tree: gotta make sure everyone is up and ready, coffee pulsing through those veins! Cameron just started drinking coffee during tour; it had to start sometime. With a early morning hop in our step we board the back of the little NCTYP tour bus every Tuesday and Thursday morning. "Everybody seat belted?" Abigail asks, she is a responsible bus driver (winks.) Then we are on our way, the excitement builds, even though we have run this show dozens of times, and will have performed it over and over, the excitement is in doing it for the children. All five of us feel the same way, there is nothing quite like doing TYP (Theatre for Young People.) Kody said something about it on the bus, just the other day, "Today was so awesome!" (this was after performing at McCrary.) "I feel so alive, I wish I could do THAT every single day for..EVER." That is pretty much how we all feel about what we are doing. There is a lot of joy in this work, even when we are awake at 5:30 am, or it is freezing and I'm waiting for the defrost to work on the windows of the bus...None of that really matters. It has been a great start to the semester. The children have loved the show; lots of laughter, talking to the actors in engaged participation, and a thrilling shout "Swim Pinocchio Swim!" to warn him danger is approaching. Fun for the whole family, the K-5 students have been eating it up. More posts to come as our tour journey continues...
